Meet The Artist

Hello, I’m Kirsty — the artist, maker and slightly overactive imagination behind House of Kyrtex.

House of Kyrtex is where my love of the unusual, the fantastical and the wonderfully peculiar gets turned into something tangible.

Using mixed-media, fabric sculpting and Powertex techniques, I create original artwork ranging from sculptures and illuminated canvases to journals, wreaths, wearable pieces and the occasional creature who develops rather more personality than was originally intended.

Very little begins with a rigid plan. I might start with an old wine glass, a piece of fabric, a canvas, a discarded object or simply an idea that refuses to leave me alone. From there, pieces tend to evolve as I work — which is how perfectly innocent objects occasionally become dragons, strange dwellings, mysterious artefacts or inhabitants of the Realm.

Everything I create is individually handcrafted.

I don’t work from patterns or mass-produce designs. Even when I revisit an idea, the finished piece develops its own textures, colours, details and character as it is made. The little irregularities and unexpected turns are part of the process — and often become the details I love most.

I’m also a Certified Powertex Tutor, and alongside creating my own artwork I run workshops where other people can discover just how much fun it is to stop worrying about getting art “right” and simply see where their imagination takes them.

House of Kyrtex has grown into something I never quite expected: part studio, part fantasy world and increasingly home to a collection of characters, creatures and curious objects that seem perfectly capable of developing stories of their own.

So welcome to my Realm.

Have a wander, investigate the strange things you find along the way, and if something appears to be watching you...

It probably is. 😈
