Lulu the Ludicrous — Fabric Sculpted Ladybird
Meet Lulu.
Chaotic, peculiar and magnificently overcommitted to being noticed, Lulu the Ludicrous is one of the stranger inhabitants of the House of Kyrtex.
Her wild crown of vivid red fabric twists and folds across her wonderfully oversized shell, punctuated by dark sculptural spots and surrounded by long, slightly unruly legs. She is unmistakably a ladybird — albeit one that appears to have wandered through the House of Kyrtex and emerged considerably more dramatic than nature originally intended.
Her body is individually sculpted from fabric and Powertex, with layers wrapped, hardened and hand-finished to create her wonderfully uneven, tactile form. Dark metallic tones and warmer highlights pick out the textures across her limbs and body, while the dramatic red shell ensures subtlety was never really an option.
Like all House of Kyrtex characters, Lulu wasn’t created from a pattern or produced as part of a run. Her pose, textures and wonderfully questionable appearance developed individually as she was made, which means there will never be another quite like her.
For anyone who likes their artwork strange, theatrical and just a little bit ridiculous.
