The Drowned Relic — Mixed Media Vessel
Meet The Drowned Relic.
Weathered, encrusted and carrying the unmistakable appearance of something recovered from waters best left unexplored, The Drowned Relic is a one-of-a-kind decorative vessel from the House of Kyrtex.
Its surface is engulfed by layers of distressed fabric and heavily worked texture, with shell and ammonite-like forms appearing embedded within it as though they have slowly accumulated over decades beneath the sea. Torn folds creep across the vessel while rough, porous details and the wrapped neck add to its wonderfully timeworn appearance.
Soft sandy tones, weathered coral, muted gold and aged metallic highlights have been built up and applied by hand, catching the raised textures and giving the piece the appearance of something shaped as much by the ocean as by its maker.
Created using fabric, Powertex and mixed-media techniques, The Drowned Relic began life as an ordinary vessel before being transformed layer by layer into something considerably less ordinary.
Precisely where it sank, how long it remained beneath the surface and what it may once have contained are details the Relic has apparently decided to take to the depths.
Perfect for lovers of nautical oddities, ancient artefacts, fantasy interiors and curious objects that look as though they arrived with a story already attached.
